It’s my favorite time of year.

Things at work slow down. Lots of time to think and reflect. And the best part . . . plenty of time to read!

If you’re like me and plan to cozy up with some good books over the next few weeks, here are the ones that had the biggest impact on me in 2019. Happy reading!

  1. Let Your Mind Run by Deena Kastor: This is the book that inspired my obsession with running. It taught me how powerful the mind is and that you truly can think your way to victory.

  2. Profit First by Mike Michalowicz: This one was a game-changer for my business and team. It helped us see that revenue growth shouldn’t be our sole focus; increasing our profit is where our attention should be.

  3. Taming Your Gremlin by Rick Carson: You know that voice in your head that tries to sabotage you? You won’t listen to it after reading this book! My coach recommended this one to me and I’m forever thankful.

  4. The Sun Does Shine by Anthony Ray Hinton: A true story of ultimate forgiveness and positivity when most would have none. If there’s one book you read on this list, make it this one. You’ll need tissues.

  5. Traction by Gino Wickman: As someone who is an idea person and not the best at creating systems, this book was huge for me. It helped me see the processes we needed to create so that we could get a grip on our fast-growing biz!

  6. Shoe Dog by Phil Knight: A memoir by the creator of Nike, and a true story of entrepreneurship. I couldn’t put this one down. In fact, I wrote a whole review about it here.

  7. Loving What Is by Byron Katie: I can’t believe I am just now discovering the genius of Byron Katie! This book will help you see your thoughts and feelings in an entirely different light. You’ll learn to ditch false narratives and live in reality, which happens to be a much more peaceful and happy place.

  8. Atomic Habits by James Clear: I set some pretty audacious health goals for myself this year, so I picked up this book in hopes that it would help me understand how to develop healthier habits. It did that and then some. Highly recommend as you think about your goals for 2020 and beyond.

  9. The Infinite Game by Simon Sinek: The premise is that we tend to operate with a finite mindset when it comes to succeeding in business, when really we are playing an infinite game. This is an important read for leaders and organizations.

  10. Let My People Go Surfing by Yvon Chouinard: A friend told me to read this one (shout out, Jared!) and I’m so glad he did. It’s the story of Patagonia and how founder Yvon Chouinard built a company that stayed true to its values and culture, even with crazy growth. An inspiring story, leader, and business. As an entrepreneur, it gives me hope for what Student Maid can become.

There you have it! What were your favorite reads this year? Can’t wait to hear your recs!

Big hugs,

Kristen
